Wanderhaven Autism Oasis

Wanderhaven Autism Oasis

Wanderhaven is a setting where the safety protocol, security systems, and specialized fence around the entire campus ensure that the participants who engage in wandering behavior are always protected. The 10-foot tall, non-climbable fence will surround the entire perimeter, and there will be a parking lot outside of the fence. A double gate will be used for the entrance to ensure the gate is never open and participants are always safe inside.

Wanderhaven will provide day programs, residential living, and vacation lodging for individuals with autism and their families. The day program will be a respite service, and participants can attend for full or half days. Wanderhaven will also provide evening respite for caregiver date nights. Participants will find peace and relaxation at Wanderhaven.

Support for the family, siblings, and caregivers is also a mission of Wanderhaven. We will provide family members and caregivers access to necessary resources, education, and respite. Other services include therapy, vocational training, recreation, socialization, and employment opportunities for the special needs community. Several community events will also be held at Wanderhaven throughout the year, including holiday events, farmer’s markets, and party rentals.

The campus of Wanderhaven will be a nature retreat. The setting will be multiple acres with a mix of wooded and cleared land. The property will include a playground and splash pad, a multipurpose building for the day program and other events, a small farm, three residential cabins with 24/7 on-site staff, two cabins for vacation rentals, and a caregiver’s house for the live-in caretakers and family.
The farm and garden section will include a vegetable garden and nature path.

Wanderhaven will be the home to small farm animals, including rabbits and chickens. The farm will be near the garden, with a paved path winding throughout the campus for walking or biking.

Therapists and other service providers will have the option to rent therapy rooms located in the multipurpose building. They will benefit from providing services in an environment where the secure perimeter ensures that the participants remain safely on campus the entire time.

Wanderhaven will be certified by the Agency for Persons with Disabilities and the Department of Children and Families as a Medicaid Waiver Provider, iBudget waiver and CDC+. This will allow participants who are recipients of the med waiver to have their tuition paid by the state. Social Security Disability Benefits may also be used for those living in the residential facility. The Family Empowerment Scholarship can also be used to pay for services at Wanderhaven.
